Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play an important and valuable role in the Davis Joint Unified School District. Students, teachers, staff, families and the community benefit from the work of individuals like you who freely share their talents and resources. We also know that as a volunteer, you, too, will be rewarded.

Volunteers help in many different ways: classrooms, playgrounds, libraries, offices, field trips, team sports and special projects. On behalf of the teachers, staff and students, “Thank you. We could not create success without your help.”

For more information please visit the District Volunteer Guidelines website.

Sign In Procedures
Sign In Procedures
Volunteers are required to sign in at the office through the RAPTOR system and to wear the volunteer badge that is printed out . Signing in each time you volunteer allows school personnel to locate you immediately in case of emergency.

Communication
Communication
It is crucial that the lines of communication stay open and clear. If you are unsure about what is expected of you or how to use certain office equipment, please ask a staff member for direction or assistance.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality
What you hear/observe about students or staff while volunteering in a school is confidential. Even a seemingly harmless comment repeated to another can be misunderstood and cause harm to the school team, a family or child. If a parent asks how their child is doing, please refer them to the classroom teacher.
What To Wear
What To Wear
Wearing appropriate, practical and comfortable clothing when you volunteer is one more way you can be a role model. Please check the school’s dress code and if you have a question, talk with the principal.

ELAC

The English Language Advisory Committee is a dedicated group of teachers, administrators, and parents who provide support, guidance and direction to the school regarding our English Language Development program at Patwin. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend ELAC meetings where you will learn useful information about the school, our program and how children are progressing in language development.

Climate Committee

A School Climate Committee is made up of parents, staff, and students who work with the principal to understand how it feels for the different students and families to be at a particular school. Using survey and other data, with the Principal, the Climate Committee develops ways to promote the District's core values of student connectedness, and respect and a positive learning environment for all. This can include anti-bullying programs, parent education, student-led activities, and much more. For more information on School Climate please visit the Climate Services website

Parent Teacher Association

The Patwin PTA provides critical support for our school. All parents are welcome and encouraged to participate. Please visit the Patwin PTA website for more information.

Field Trip Drivers

Our program is greatly enhanced by numerous curriculum-related field trips during the school year. If you are willing to drive on field trips, you must follow the procedures listed below.

We strictly adhere to several precautions for the safety of your child. Therefore, it is important to register in the office as a volunteer field trip driver early each school year. You must complete the field trip driver form, copies of you driver’s license, and proof of insurance.

Field Trip Driving Safety Rules
No siblings, guests, or pets are allowed on field trips. We ask parents not to make changes once teachers have assigned drivers and passengers. All students of any age must be in the back seat. Students under 8 years old must be appropriately secured in a car seat or booster seat. All passengers and drivers must wear appropriate seatbelts. Drivers must refrain from all cell phone use while driving, even hands-free. Drivers should obey all posted speed limits and all traffic laws, follow the planned route to and from the field trip destination, and make no unauthorized stops. Thank you for your help ensuring the students’ safety and education!
